What Are Developmental Milestones?

Your child will be expected to achieve identifiable physical skills in a chronological order. These physical milestones each have a window of achievement. The window of achievement is listed on the Motor Babies instructional cards to help you keep track of your baby's development.

Motor Babies Motto - when babies are awake, they should be working on physical development!

"Skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.)." - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

why ARE developmental MOTOR milestones so important?

Motor milestones set the foundation for musculoskeletal development (skeletal shape, muscular strength, and endurance) and neuromuscular development (coordination, balance, sensory, and spatial).

Gross motor skills are the pathway to the development of other milestones such as cognition, fine motor, speech and sensory development.

Tracking motor milestones helps you determine if your child is delayed. This is valuable information to share with your pediatrician. Motor Babies may help your child avoid Container Baby Syndrome, Positional Torticollis and Flat Head Syndrome.
